Brainstorming for ideas
When we were coming up with an idea for our film we looked at many different genres that we enjoyed. Our AS film was noir so we wanted to branch out into other genres. We considered horror, thriller, sci fi and comedy.
We looked at different methods for coming up with stories. We tried last years method of trying to come up with an idea by asking other people what they enjoyed however this time the consensus was too varied and random to pick a concrete idea. We tried using https://www.surveymonkey.com to publish a survey online so that we could get the consensus of different age groups as to what our idea should be but again the consensus was too jumbled to find any correlation between ideas that were popular.
We finally came upon a method were we chose a random article, heading or picture from a newspaper or an online blog to try and inspire ideas from our film. We trialed this technique using websites like http://www.buzzfeed.com/ and http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/trending to try and find stories that inspired us.
Eventually came up with 2 different story ideas derived from the news articles that everyone on the group found intriguing. One was of a man who sent creepy video tapes to families and was arrested for stalking and the other was a man who was obessed with UFO sightings.
We chose the video tape story and began to extrapolate a film outline from this story.
